Autumn 1 - Happily Ever After

What a great start the children have had in red class. The children have settled in so quickly and are already producing fantastic work!

The topic for this half term has been ‘Happily Ever After’. The children have really enjoyed this topic and have had lots of fun exploring fairy tales, traditional and modern stories. In literacy we have been sequencing stories and making instructions to grow beans, as well as labelling pictures from our stories. In our small world area, we have had lots of opportunities to retell the stories with puppets and props and we have been using familiar phrases from the story. In our home corner we have had lots of fun being shop assistants as well as hairdressers. In maths we have looked at counting objects and matched them to the correct number. As well as sorting objects into different groups and comparing them. We have been little scientists and planted our own beans. We have been observing them to see how well they are growing and have discussed what they need to be able to grow. We have also been testing materials the three little pigs used to see how they felt and why they were good for building a house or not. In physical education we have had the RuggerEds come in and teach us lots of new skills and we have all enjoyed taking part. Finally, on BATS Day lots of parents came in to help their child make a hand puppet, which was a friend for the Gruffalo, this was a huge success and the children loved having their grown-ups in.
