Spring 1

This term in Oak Class in English at the start of the term we looked at writing our own stories about the character Plop inspired by story ‘The Owl who was afraid of the dark’. Then we used the poem ‘If I were in charge of the world’ and we had lots of fun thinking of what we would like and then wrote our own poems called ‘If I were in charge of the country’. In geography we have explored the school grounds using compass direction’s, finding human and physical features, used Bee Bots on an aerial photo map of the school and made maps with keys including a huge 3D map using PE equipment. In maths we have finished our money unit by having a trip to the shops to work out how much we have spent and the change we are now working on multiplication and division. In science we have been learning about plants, we have named the parts of a plant and run an experiment to test if plants do need water or not. In RE we have been learning about what different sacred books there are in different religions and how they should be treated. In PSHE we have been talking about how we can achieve a task if we work hard at it and have then chosen a challenge to complete as a group, some of us choose to learn a poem, some a dance and some learnt to count in French and Mandarin Chinese. In PE we have been working on using the large apparatus in gymnastics and ball skills in games and in music enjoyed again playing the glockenspiels to a new song called ‘Once a man fell in a well’. In computing we learnt how to use the music maker program and explored sounds. In art we learnt different modelling and printing techniques such as origami, rubbing, printing with potatoes and creating our own tiles to print with. We then printed using different patterns such as random, repeat, half drop and full drop. Our artist of the term was Paul Klee and we created our own faces using collage materials and our music genres have been Country in January and Disco in February. The term we also had our bedtime story event where we stayed at school and got our pyjamas on, shared a bedtime story and enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate.
