Spring 1 - From Farm to Fork

Curriculum Overview - From Farm to Fork

In our first term of the New Year we have been look at the topic From Farm to Fork. We looked at where food comes from and talked about how they get to our homes including looking at shops in history. We discussed where different fruits came from and couldn’t believe the different countries all over the world that contributed to our fruit salad. It was very yummy! We also sorted foods into different food groups. Our home corner was an ice cream parlour and we enjoyed serving our friends and creating wonderful tasty ice creams. In PE this terms as well as having the Rugger Eds showing us different Paralympic sports we used the apparatus in Gymnastic and travelled across it using different parts of our bodies. In Science we have looked at different scientists and inventors and Year 2 made greenhouses to see if they would help the beans grow and also tested materials inspired by Charles Macintosh, choosing the most suitable waterproof materials. While Year 1 were looking at plants and making pictograms of their favourite and also making their own rain gauges to record the rainfall. We have been working in pairs more this term and enjoyed helping and sharing stories with a reading partner as well as working together in Numeracy and writing stories in Literacy. In Numeracy we have been measuring a variety of different items using length, weight, capacity and time to measure and record. For BATs day our grown-ups were so excited to be helping us make a hand puppet! We planned which vegetable we wanted to make and the materials we needed. We had to cut out a template then the material and sew it all together finally adding decorations.
