Facilities

Our two year olds have access to a large open Nursery which is shared with 3 and 4 year olds. Our Nursery is equipped with age appropriate facilities and resources. The older children take great pride in supporting and helping the younger children and are fantastic role models. They will often support them with the social skills and encourage them to follow the routines of the Nursery. We are very proud of the relationships that develop in our Nursery .We have changing facilities and work closely with parents when the time is right for your child to use the toilet independently. We also have sleeping facilities for children who require a nap.

Uniform

Uniform is not compulsory in Nursery but school jumpers are available to purchase should you wish to. Please see the uniform page for more information

Additional Items

As we have lots of fun in Nursery please send your child with a spare set of clothes and ensure nappies and wipes are provided daily if applicable.

Settling In

You will be invited to attend a settling in session with your child before they start which is a great opportunity to get to know the staff and ask any questions you may have. You will also be asked to fill in the relevant paperwork. Staff will discuss any transition needs and we can adapt this according to individual needs.

Comforters

We discourage the use of dummies in our nursery. However, there is some flexibility for two year olds who depend upon these in times of upset and when needing a sleep. We will discuss this with you and agree a plan.

Our Curriculum

Our Early Years curriculum is carefully planned to make sure that all children thrive and achieve. In the Two Year provision we focus on the Three Prime areas. These areas are crucial for a child's learning and development. These three prime areas are:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Communication and Language

Physical Development.

We aim to support each child to identify their own sense of identity and self - worth, as well as focusing on each and every child’s individual needs and interests.

We pride ourselves on our excellent relationships that we form with the children and this helps the children to settle quickly into the Nursery. Our eagerness to develop strong relationships with the children helps us to identify any additional needs quickly and coordinate any additional or specialist services that may be required.

The focus of the session continues to be on learning through play, with a routine that incorporates adult led activities and builds on children’s developing knowledge, curiosity and language. Our carefully chosen provision and activities promote physical coordination and manipulative skills, role-play and creativity as well as communication and language. Children take part in focused activities throughout the session. Children have a free choice of which activity they take part it, the room is well equipped with plenty of resources. We encourage the children to develop their independence and take a lead in their own learning and development.

Children are provided with many different activities along with music and movement, song times, construction, small world and outdoor play. Circle time every day is an opportunity to take part in group activities and listen to stories; staff use props and puppets during these times to hold children’s attention and develop their concentration, listening and communication skills.

Children spend a lot of their time outdoors and have access to a large outdoor area where they develop key physical skills alongside other children in the EYFS.

In the first half term you will be invited to your child’s 2 year check where the class teacher will identify areas of strength and areas for development and work closely with you to support with these targets. The staff pride themselves on developing good relationships with parents and will have regular contact with you to discuss your child's progress.

Snack

Children are encouraged to share a healthy snack and drink of milk in a small friendly group where staff promote good table manners and encourage children to be independent in their feeding. This is provided by school.

Children will then be offered fresh water throughout their session. We appreciate that children will be at different developmental stages and will encourage the children to drink from an open cup when they are ready.
