Summer 1 - Gardener's World
This term in Yellow Class and our topic has been Gardeners’ World. In Literacy we focused on the story Jack and the Beanstalk and have rewritten the traditional tale as well as writing letters to the giant as Jack. We thought about what we would do if we had a magic bean and created our own colourful magic beans. We also used non-fiction texts to find out about plants and create our own plant book. Our home corner had been a garden centre. In topic and art we found out about the artists Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet and Andy Goldsworthy who all use living and natural things in their art and we made our own versions inspired by them. We made a salad using different vegetables and fruits to make ice lollies. In Numeracy we have been working on grouping, sharing, repeated addition and money. In Science we have all planted beans, labelled the different parts of plants, sorted the names of the parts of a plant and what a plant needs to grow. To finish our topic we spent an afternoon in the garden, weeding, tidying and planting to start creating a senses garden for all the classes to enjoy.
