Summer 2

This term in Blue class our topic has been The Seaside.  We have investigated how seaside holidays were like in the past using books and the internet.  We discovered that most people travelled to the seaside by steam train and they wore their best clothes.  Most people only went for a day trip.

In maths we have been working on capacity and time related activities.  In I.C.T we have been finding out about personal safety online through the theme of Pirates.  Children have enjoyed writing their own pirate blogs and diaries.

In P.E Ruggers Eds have been teaching cricket skills and the children have enjoyed playing matches on the school field after the success of the England team winning the Cricket World Cup!  Our sports day finished with all the year twos running a relay from one end of the field to another.

We have had two fantastic day trips this term.  The first was to North Anston Butterfly House and Wildlife Centre.  We had a talk and animal handling session based on the classification of animals.  We all learnt a new scientific word - detritivore- which refers to animals that eat dead plant and animals like vultures.  For our leavers trip we had a great day out at Wheelgate Park, went on lots of fun rides and enjoyed an icecream.  As part of transition we had a lovely teddy bears picnic with the children of Cavendish Junior School.

Our Leavers Assembly theme this year was based on the 50th anniversary of the moon landing by U.S.A astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.  Some children dressed up as astronauts and we sang space songs from The Police and David Bowie.  It is the 50th anniversary of the song `Space Oddity` which is the children`s favourite song.  We came into the hall through a huge white space rocket.
